Back to School Style by Lyla
Ms. Lyla, my sweet sweet 6 year old. She was very excited to do some back to school shopping this year, more than previous years. I thought it was fun, but I didn’t realize that hyped enthusiasm was foreshadowing a slight change in the way she and I shop. We typically hit up a few stores, but I started at Osh Kosh B’Gosh because they have sturdy clothes that are built for play and are also super cute and the way they cut their styles really works for Lou’s shape.
Before we headed to OKB’G in the Folsom Outlets we talked about how she needed to try to find a color palette and try to keep to those colors or to complimentary colors. Moms: this is my biggest back to school shopping tip. It truly makes the mornings and the outfit pairing sooooo much easier because everything basically goes together. I also told her we needed to get leggings to layer, she needed new shoes, and a warm topper.
So Osh Kosh has been known for decades because of their sturdy denim. Well, we chose our denim in the form of chambray and it is truly fab! So that helped to develop our color pallet: grey, navy, white, tan, and pink. After that she asked if I would shop on the boy side with Brady and that she would check in with me. What? This has Never. Happened. Before. But I went with it… and spied on her from the other side of the store. It was priceless! She would pick something up and check it out, hold it up to her, hold it up to a skirt or pants then look for her size. Crazy. After about 30 minutes of this she said she was ready to try on. Wait, try on? Here? We’ve never really done that before.
Here’s the top pics for the coolest Back to School Style by Lyla…
This skirt was her favorite, she’s worn it at least once a week or more. The flexible waistband makes it perfect to put cartwheel short under when it’s warm and leggings and tights when it get’s cold. Plus, her chambray tunic looks super cute with it!
They have really cute, really nicely priced accessories. Lou took a whirl with some sunglasses and headbands. We left with a few…
This look is Lyla’s favorite all together outfit. This tunic has been washed and dried about 5 times and it is still in perfect shape. These leggings have a bit of silver sparkle, super fun!
The detail on this tunic is super modern with a little aztec-boho pattern. But because it’s in this fun mauvey-pink it’s perfect for a little girl, we don’t really like anything too grown up. Not to mention the sparkles in the headband perfectly match the sparkles in the leggings.
These Kitty Face Slippers are hot in the streets for adults, and perfectly marvelous for this little animal lover. MEOW! She paired them with some fun pink socks, but tights with a skirt would be super cute too.
We bought these fun tops and tunics. We love tunics because Lyla prefers leggings to jeans and nothing goes better with a tunic on a little girl than leggings.
The leggings (2) are the ones mentioned above, they are only $5 and super sturdy so I bought a few pairs. The joggers (1) are the perfect pant for active little ones. She can wear these with her cat slippers or high tops and look perfectly stylish. We picked these up in a few colors too.
This dress is Lyla’s favorite of all! She hasn’t been able to wear it yet because it hasn’t been cool enough, but it’s currently hanging on a hook outside of her closet just getting ready to be taken out on the
town playground. The top is a sweater and the chambray skirt is pretty swingy.
I thought and thought about this jacket before we actually purchased it. It’s really thick and the styling is too cute, but I was hung up on the seam detailing. The colors are not our palette, that’s an orangey red, not pink. But we went with it anyway because she really needs a jacket with character. I’m sure I won’t be disappointed.
Shoes, shoes, shoes. I love shoes, my kids love shoes, my hubby loves shoes. But the kids are running through shoes like crazy. Their feet are growing at an incredible rate. Plus, Lyla has sensitive feet, so it’s especially hard to find shoes that actually feel good. This trio of shoes have her covered from skirts, to shorts, to dresses, and sporty looks. She’s wild for the high tops. (Me too!)
Of course she need some coordinating headbands to go with her new wardrobe and her new shorter hair do. These make things a little easier in the morning too, a nice brush through and a headband and BAM we’re out the door!
