Fall is coming!  And Local Happenings…

Fall has long been my favorite season for so many reasons.  Something about a chilly morning is so exhilarating to me.  I love the feeling of a fresh start, like somehow we are starting out on a new beginning with new wisdom and positive energy.

Starbucks released all their pumpkin lattes and pastries, all the stores are fully stocked with cozy sweaters and adorable boots.  It’s officially FALL in my book, but only the weather doesn’t agree.  I’ve been wanting to wear my sweaters, boots, and scarves for a few weeks now, but it’s just been too hot.  While it may not feel much like fall right now, this Wednesday is the official Autumnal Equinox.  Hopefully today (101°) will be the last of the heat.  I’ve been working on my calendar page and I added all the fall fun, new library story times and local events.  There are so many fun and free things going on in our area everyday for all ages!

Here is a sample of what’s happening this week and a few highlights from the rest of the month:

Last week my family and I spent an unbelievably amazing week surrounded by family and friends in the gorgeous Yosemite Valley.  Tent camping is not always glamourous, but when it’s down right it’s awesome!  Now it’s time for me to get my head out of the clouds and get set for back to school.  My son starts a week from today and my daughter starts a week from tomorrow.  While I cannot believe our carefree summer days are almost over, I am looking forward to being back on a steady routine.  Here’s a list of fun to do this week to help you (and me) savor this last week of school-less summer fun.

Plan ahead: Amador Vintners Harvest Wine Festival is coming in October.  You can buy tickets now, $40 for Saturday, $30 for Sunday and $10 for the designated driver.

For over twenty years, Amador County wineries have opened their cellar doors and tasting rooms to bring the harvest to you!  The Big Crush once again rolls out with  over 40 wineries celebrating a year’s hard work with hospitality and harvest activities on October 4th and 5th.

Two days of bountiful cuisine and world-class wines, along with sounds of acoustic to rock & roll music wafting from every crush pad in the county!  Most exciting are the harvest activities–personal vineyard tours, blending seminars, grape stomps, and more…

Last week was a crazy long week.  For some reason I was totally feeling the downside of togetherness that can come with the end of summer.  I see the finish line (it’s 22 days away to be exact) but I still have those 22 days to get through.  Don’t get me wrong, I love my kids and I really love spending time with them… for the most part.  But when you find yourself sitting in the Costco “cafe” telling an elderly couple about how you’re at the “yelling in public” stage of summer, you really need to go home or take a walk.  You know?  Please tell me it’s not just me…

On a high note, my daughter swam her fastest race at the last swim meet of the season and got her first blue ribbon!!!!  I was really proud of her, but I completely melted when I saw the pride and excitement on her face.  Such a special summer memory.

Plan ahead: If you would like to support the Folsom City Zoo at a discounted rate, buy your tickets to the Growl, Howl & Wine event before August 1st.  This is a super fun event that will take place on September 12th.  Buy your tickets here.

Growl, Howl and Wine is a benefit for the Folsom City Zoo Sanctuary with live music and unique auction items to raise funds to enhance the lives of our wildlife and the community programs that teach responsible behavior towards all animals.  Over 14 Wineries from the Fair Play region along with local micro-brewers and restaurants and a few of our Zoo animal friends will be represented in this annual event and celebration.  Discount $30 early purchase price / Limited Reserved Tables for 8 available / $40 at the door

Boy have we been spoiled with all this fab weather we had let week??  This week is going to be really nice too.  Wednesday and Thursday are the hottest days at 99º and 100º and the weather will be low 90s for the weekend which means it will be a great weekend to visit the State Fair.  The fair will be here until july 26th, Monday – Thursday 11-10pm and Friday – Saturday 10-10pm.  The carnival hours are about 1 hour later than the fair hours.  I’m not a fan of the fair, but I might make an exception and take my kiddos if the weather is nice.  Have you been yet?

4th of July is my favorite holiday of the entire year.  This holiday is about celebrating independence, perseverance, and all the people that have made that possible thought put our nation’s history.  To me it’s also about getting people together, BBQ-ing, eating watermelon and berry cobbler, wearing red, white, and blue with pride, and summer fun.  I hope you and your family have a fabulous and safe holiday.

I have lined up some really awesome guest posts from some amazing and talented people I know for the rest of this week.  I just know you will love their posts!!!

FYI – it’s supposed to be 110° on Wednesday.  So…. get outta town or get indoors people!

Fireworks in Town Center is one of my favorite things this time of year.  But a word to the wise: it gets crowded!  Also, they only let you set-up as early as 4pm and they enforce that.  If I was you, plan to be in the parking lot unpacked and ready to grab your spot at 3:30.  You can leave and come back or just send one family member to secure your spot.  Also, check out the parking information and exit route info below.  It’s a real bottle neck, so plan to park where you can get a quick exit.

Last week my family and I went to Lego Land and had a BLAST!  We just got home very late last night.  I’ll be sure to update you about my thoughts and feelings about the park later this week.  So, I’m just getting my weekly Summer Fun post up today, but it’s new and improved!  LOL, well kinda anyway.  I was thinking when we were driving to Carlsbad (yep, ROAD TRIP!) that it might be helpful for me to add how hot it supposed to be in addition to the local events.  I know, I know…  You have a smartphone that tells you the weather.  BUT, have you ever thought you would love to take your kids to see the splash dogs only to go there and there s no shade and it’s 105°?  This way the events and the heat level are matched up for you!  You’re welcome.

FYI – it’s supposed to be 106° on Thursday.  So…. get outta town or get indoors people!

This week be sure to check out one of our very own local moms, Darina,  rocking the stage with her band Hip Service on Wednesday evening at the Palladio, Pet Partners at the EDH Library on Friday, the 15th annual Cameron Park Lake Extravaganza with a ton of family activities including a fireworks display, and get your tickets for a fun breakfast train ride!

Last week was a crazy week!  Getting used to the new daily schedule for our family, changed swim team schedule, a family graduation, and a barrage of other random appointments made summer fun hard to come by.  But, the kids and I, met some friends for a loud breakfast and enjoyed a few hours at the lake.  That made up for all the craziness. Hopefully this week will be more mellow with more FUN!
