Switch Up and Out of Your Rut

Switch Up and Out of Your Rut

How adorable is this beautiful Italian Soda Bar, I have never seen this before!  It’s a festive alternative to a mimosa bar and perfect for mock-cocktails.

There are several things I know about myself, the top of the list is that I’m a creature of habit.  Almost without thinking I do the same things repeatedly until someone points out that there could be an easier/better way.  Thankfully I’m also someone who believes in evolving and learning.  And that is exactly what happened when I went to the Viva® Vantage® live blog event last week.  I pledged to take the 7-Day Switch Up and swap out my normal brand of paper towels for Viva® Towels.  I have to admit, this brand does far more than my other brand especially when it comes to durability and scrubbing power.  With two kids and a dog, there’s always a mess!  It’s no surprise that Viva® Vantage® was recently named a 2015 Product of the Year.

Back to School Style by Lyla

“I participated in a Influencer Activation on behalf of Influence Central for OshKosh B’Gosh. I received a promotional item to thank me for my participation.”

Ms. Lyla, my sweet sweet 6 year old.  She was very excited to do some back to school shopping this year, more than previous years.  I thought it was fun, but I didn’t realize that hyped enthusiasm was foreshadowing a slight change in the way she and I shop.  We typically hit up a few stores, but I started at Osh Kosh B’Gosh because they have sturdy clothes that are built for play and are also super cute and the way they cut their styles really works for Lou’s shape.

Before we headed to OKB’G in the Folsom Outlets we talked about how she needed to try to find a color palette and try to keep to those colors or to complimentary colors.  Moms: this is my biggest back to school shopping tip.  It truly makes the mornings and the outfit pairing sooooo much easier because everything basically goes together.  I also told her we needed to get leggings to layer, she needed new shoes, and a warm topper.

So Osh Kosh has been known for decades because of their sturdy denim.  Well, we chose our denim in the form of chambray and it is truly fab!  So that helped to develop our color pallet: grey, navy, white, tan, and pink.  After that she asked if I would shop on the boy side with Brady and that she would check in with me.  What?  This has Never. Happened. Before.  But I went with it… and spied on her from the other side of the store.  It was priceless!  She would pick something up and check it out, hold it up to her, hold it up to a skirt or pants then look for her size.  Crazy.  After about 30 minutes of this she said she was ready to try on.  Wait, try on?  Here?  We’ve never really done that before.

Back to School Made Easy

Back to School Made Easy

Back to School Made Easy

I have been there, I’ve seen it!  I’ve seen those moms that roll up to school with coffee in hand, hair looking fab, outfit on point, and their kids look awake, fed, and happy to be leisurely walking into school.  Meanwhile there I am in workout clothes I picked up off the floor of my closet, (despite the fact that I have no actual intention of working out on that particular day) hurrying my kids across the parking lot because we are late, my daughter’s shoes are magically too small that morning and she is upset that she had to wear a different pair that doesn’t match.  And wonder, what did they do differently that morning?  What time did they get up???  How can I do that?

Well, one day I stopped wondering and I started planning.  Now, I’m the mom that’s on time (most of the time)!  I still mainly wear workout clothes, but that’s actually by choice.  Don’t get me wrong, I’m no where near perfect and I’m still late sometimes.  BUT, you GUYSSSSS!!!  I was so early getting out the door one day last week that I stopped and got coffee before I took my kiddos to school.  I mean, that was a blue ribbon day.

Here are the tips I’ve been employing in my household to get us all out the door on time and prepared.

Ponytail Streamer Tutorial

Ponytail Streamer Tutorial

Ponytail Streamer Tutorial

I’ve seen these adorable ponytail streamers on girls playing all kinds of sports for awhile now.  They are so cute!  Just tons of long ribbons that hang into their ponytails.  When Lyla started soccer last year I HAD to get her one!  Well, after shelling out $12 I was a little disappointed, I mean it was still cute, but it was fraying at the ends, the ribbons weren’t really long enough for her hair, and it wasn’t personalized to her team or with her name.  So, I decided to make my own for all the Unicorns.  I looked at a few different tutorials on how to make them including a glueing and sewing version.  The glue got too thick and clumpy and the sewing one didn’t allow for the ribbons to hang every which way.  Here’s how I did it.

Camping Tips and Tricks

Camping Tips and Tricks Camping Tips and Tricks

Today I’m giving you a tour of our site and how we like to keep things organized and safe plus a few tips and tricks.  Remember, I can’t take credit for much (if any) of the campsite organization and set-up.  My MIL and FIL (Mimi and Poppy or M&P) handle it all.  They’re expert campers as they’ve been doing this for a very long time.

Playroom Storage Tips and Tricks

Playroom Storage Tips and Tricks

Today’s post is less about what I have done and more about what I wish I could do.  Instead of having an entire room dedicated to toys and play, I have a play area in part of our “great room” and each kid has toy storage in their closets.  I’ve never been 100% happy with the storage system I have going on.  The looks, the ease of use, and amount of space all leave something to be desired.  Also, I am a toy nazi… there I said it.  It’s not that I think toys have no value to children (many do), it’s that I really hate accumulating stuff.  When I was pregnant with my first born I told everyone to not buy this baby any toys, under no circumstances would toys be OK.  I said, “My child will only have books!”.  Well, you can imagine how fast that changed!  So here I am with a thousand race tracks, a million cars, a cagillion dinos, one billion stuffed animals, two billion legos, five million lalaloopsies and the list goes on and on and on with every Christmas and every birthday.  My children are so blessed to have such generous family and friends.  Meanwhile I’m left trying to organize it all.  Without further ado, here are my top pins and tips to help you create the most fab with these playroom storage tips and tricks.
